We provide a variety of loft insulation options, each suited to different needs and preferences:
Blanket Insulation
Widely used in the UK, blanket insulation is laid across the loft floor, acting like a giant thermal blanket. This method is cost-effective and efficient for most homes.
Blown-Fibre and Loose-Fill Insulation
While effective for cavity walls, we do not recommend blown-fibre and loose-fill insulation for lofts. These materials can be messy and inconvenient for roof space maintenance and are better suited to other applications.
Insulation Boards
Insulation boards are typically attached to the underside of roof joists, creating a warm loft. This type is ideal for flat roofs or loft conversions, providing excellent thermal efficiency.
Spray Foam Insulation
Though spray foam has good thermal properties, we do not recommend it for domestic buildings. It can interfere with building surveys and may cause issues with mortgage lenders during property transactions.
Our Recommended Insulation Materials
For optimal performance, we primarily recommend blanket insulation. Here are the top materials we use:
Superglass / Knauf:
These brands offer non-combustible glass mineral wool insulation with a Euroclass A1 fire rating, ensuring both safety and efficiency.
Rockwool Insulation
Made from stone wool, Rockwool is more expensive but excels in energy efficiency, fire safety, and acoustic properties, making it a superior choice for comprehensive insulation needs.
Thermafleece CosyWool
This sustainable option is made from 75% sheep wool, 15% recycled polyester, and 10% polyester binder. It is long-lasting, safe to handle, and itch-free, though it comes at a higher cost.
Understanding R-Value
Insulation products are measured by their R-value, which indicates resistance to heat flow. A higher R-value means better thermal performance, ensuring your home stays warm in winter and cool in summer.
